Description

A poor country boy, an orphan, is taken in by a wealthy and famous abhi master. He gives him a home and teaches him a trade. By coincidence, the protagonist meets and befriends people who left their names as participants in the April Uprising, in the rebellion of the Russophile officers in Ruschuk, as builders of New Bulgaria. Is this a halo, a destiny or a burden for an ordinary person? How we change with the years, with our losses and with our love. What are true friends and how far can our devotion to them go? When Christo achieves all he has dreamed of, will he find that he has lost much?

This is not a novel about the Liberation, nor about the patriotism associated with that era. It is a story about the common man touched by the sacred idea of Liberation. About his life path, his values and his development. About his past, about the present, about love and hate. About everything that happens in life, about what we can tell ourselves but keep silent, about the wounds and the equilibriums, about the people we meet who light up our days or plunge us into darkness.

Carmen Mishu's novel „Rain“ takes us back in time to the April Uprising, the Liberation and the years after. The historical events are presented through the personal dramas of the participants. The experiences of the protagonist Hristo Bobekov and his family, as well as those of real revolutionary activists from Gabrovo, Ruse and other towns are reflected with particular attention. Among them, the characters of Tsanko Dyustabanov and Stefan Stambolov are particularly vividly described. The fictional works have the peculiarity that in them the facts are presented in a particular way, without everywhere and necessarily observing the historical truth. Carmen Michu, however, is as truthful as possible when describing the events of the great history and the everyday life of her heroes in those decisive times for the fate of Bulgaria. - Hristo Matanov
