 Here begins the story, marked by ancestral curse, blood gold, sinful love, incest, murder...

 The plot unfolds in the time frame from the 1930s to the 1980s. The lives of the characters take place against the backdrop of the mass collectivisation of the Bulgarian countryside - where voluntary, where violent, and in the following years, when despite the velvet glove on, the iron fist of the communist regime continues to crush human lives.

 Close friends Tsveta and Tanya, whose growth from girls to mature women the narrative follows, are the main narrators of the story, although other voices are also heard. Their relationship with Dimana's family is different, but both are confronted with unexplained events and mysterious deaths. Determined to uncover the truth, they gather bits of information to finally unravel the mystery.
