Description
"Last Prayer" is a book in the style of the old masters, though written by a young writer. Boyan Boev is 29 years old, but his name is already familiar to those who follow the new Bulgarian literature. His novel "Sybian's Bride" is one of the events in our literature in recent years. Now the young author offers a very mature and strong novel in the classical traditions of Bulgarian fiction, but in spirit it is a modern, contemporary interpretation of its themes and motifs.
В "Last Prayer" Boyan Boev paints pre-liberation Bulgaria - with all its conflicts and problems. The young writer leads us through the streets of Delva - a beautiful town that will soon experience its greatest drama.
The year is 1872. Bulgaria is on the eve of its liberation from Ottoman rule. In this troubled time, Naiden Toromanov, an alert youth, returned to his hometown of Delva after a long wandering abroad to bury his father. His father's land was as close as it was foreign. His return sweeps away the seemingly serene tranquillity of the town and more than ever the hatred between the poor and the gendarmes, between Christians and Muslims.
Against the backdrop of the turbulent times in pre-liberation Bulgaria, the family saga is set "Last Prayer". The novel reflects the clash between the Bulgarians and the Ottomans, the poor and the poor, the educated and the ignorant. The desire to rebel against slavery is intertwined with love, new friendships and the thirst for revenge, while the sins of the past surface.
As a folk song it is beautiful "Last Prayer"because it is about Bulgarian freedom, but also about doomed love, tragic fate and slave orientation.
Immerse yourself in the elegiac atmosphere of pre-liberation Bulgaria. Your soul will tremble along with the hopes and disappointments of the heroes. A sigh will fall from your lips, longing for love, freedom, forgiveness. This is a book that has gathered what is not yet described, what is not felt about those times. Boyan Boev offers it to us with the panache of the awakeners of that time. And you will experience an adventure that will make you empathetic, even more Bulgarian.
The work is full of events and dynamics, it has historical credibility about the time and the way of life in those years. The characters are all very full-bodied, believable individuals that many modern readers could relate to. Each character is developed with their feelings, pasts and longings for a better future. After all the plot twists and turns, no one is the same as they were at the beginning of the novel, and the deeply existential messages stir the reader's soul, making them feel even more Bulgarian.
