Description

The novel takes the reader to the harsh Kanun of Leke Dukagini, who still rules in isolated locations in the Balkans. In it, women become sworn deviants and turn into men by cutting their hair and dressing them in men's clothes. Blood feuds between families are a daily occurrence, love equals death, and a woman equals twenty oxen. To nothing more. Honor is measured by „two fingers above the forehead.“ In this patriarchy, death is a constant visitor to almost every home. And this is not a myth, but a truth that creeps no more than 600 km away. This truth is not foreign, it is our truth. The story of man and the choices he makes, followed by their irreversible consequences. The book introduces us to Becchia, a girl who desperately wants to be the son of her father who wanted her to have a boy. How far can you go to become a son? Is it a sin to escape death? Is it a mistake to give in to passion at the cost of someone else's life? This is a story about the man beyond gender, beyond the words „son“ and „daughter,“ „man“ and „woman,“ about the man who has gathered the wrath and mercy of God into his 21 grams of soul.

The novel is written in the postmodern „stream of consciousness“ writing style that sweeps the reader like a wave back into the past and forward into the present. All the reader has to do to keep from drowning in it is to relax and let themselves be carried to the very end, if such a story can have an ending at all.
