Description
Germany, autumn 1943. Twenty-six-year-old Rosa Sauer had fled the bombing in Berlin to stay with her husband's parents in the village of Gross-Parch, just a few miles from the Wolf's Lair, Hitler's hideout. Soon after her arrival, Rosa was chosen as the Führer's taster. Together with nine other women, she must taste the dishes intended for him every day to make sure they are not poisoned. Over time, friendships, feuds, and secret alliances develop between the tasters. In 1944, a new SS commander, Albert Ziegler, arrived at the Krausendorf barracks and from the first day imposed an atmosphere of terror and fear with his strictness. But between him and Rosa a different relationship would be born...
Inspired by the true story of Margot Woelk, Hitler's taster, the novel recounts the extraordinary events in the life of a young woman faced with difficult life choices, torn by her inability to draw a clear line between right and wrong, good and evil.
